The 4th stage of the Tour of Britain ended in a bunch sprint which Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) won from Daniel Mclay (Great Britain) and Ben Swift (Team Sky). Bernie Eisel was our best placed rider on the stage, finishing in 18th position. At 218km in distance, stage 4 from Denbigh to Builth Wells was the longest of this year’s Tour of Britain. The 4000m of climbing that awaited the peloton also meant it would be a difficult day for all but this did not stop the riders from starting at a blistering pace. Attack after attack came for the first 58km before a break eventually.
Stage 17 of the Vuelta a Espana was yet another stage decided by the breakaway. Mathias Frank (IAM Cycling) was the rider who would take the top step in Llucena as he crossed the line ahead of Leopold Konig (Team Sky) and Robert Gesink (LottoNL-Jumbo). On another sweltering hot day, the Vuelta a Espana peloton had to deal with a tough 177km route today. 2 category 2 climbs and a category 3 climb during the stage would soften up the rider’s legs before a brutal category 1 climb brought the stage to a close. The first cat 2 climb started after only 12km of racing.
