The 10th stage of the Giro d’Italia was a really tough test as riders took on over 4000m of climbing from Campi Besenzio to Sestola. Giulio Ciccone (Bardiani CSF) would be the stage victor, taking the win ahead of Ivan Rovny (Tinkoff) and Darwin Atapuma (BMC Racing). An incredibly hard start saw the race split from early on as a number of riders tried to get into the breakaway. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka had Johann van Zyl part of the early action and the South African made a good move but it was reeled in by a constantly attacking peloton. Eventually 3 riders jumped clear followed.

Stage 2 of the 2016 Amgen Tour of California was a first test for the overall contenders, as it was a stage where one couldn’t win, but lose the race. With four categorized climbs on the menu it was also one for escapees and Ben King (Cannondale) managed to take advantage of that. The US-rider was one of two survivors of an early breakaway and took the win from Evan Huffmann (Rally) in Santa Clarita. Nathan Haas was Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s best placed rider on the day. He crossed the line in 8th place, less than 10 seconds behind the winner. The stage.
