Once again Craig Dutton was able to capture our riders in full flight at the African Time Trial Championships. Merhawi picked up the u23 gold while Daniel and Reinardt racked in the Elite silver and bronze medals respectively. .

The African Championships Individual Time Trial event ran it’s course today in Wartburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung had 5 riders take to the start ramp in Louis Meintjes, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Merhawi Kudus, Daniel Teklehaimanot and Adrien Niyonshuti. In the Elite race an early fast time was set by Tsgabu Grmay (Ethiopia) and it would prove to stand the test of time with a number of riders going close to the mark, but unable to beat it. In the end Daniel would come home in the silver medal position with Reinardt collecting the bronze. In the u23 race Merhawi would go on to.

The 4th stage of the Tour of Qatar saw Jaco Venter go on the offensive, attacking with Dimitry Gruzdev (Astana) and Jarl Salomein (Topsport-Vlaanderen) after just 10km of racing. The trio built a lead of up to 3’45” at one stage before the prevailing winds ignited the chase from the peloton. The escape was not to be despite the brave effort from the attackers. The sprinters teams nullified the gap with 18km remaining and a nervy bunch sprint then ensued.
