After 6 days at the Vuelta a Espana, Team MTN-Qhubeka have a lot to be positive about. A solid performance in the opening team time trial, two breakaways, a top 10 sprint finish, a category leaders jersey and a rider in the top 15 of the General Classification. Team Principle Doug Ryder breaks it down for us as he highlights the significant results the team has achieved in the opening week of the Vuelta..
The 7th stage of the Vuelta a Espana would turn out to be the toughest of the tour so far and also the most eventful for Team MTN-Qhubeka. Sergio Pardilla and Kristian Sbaragli both hit the deck early on in the stage but both riders were able to continue, thankfully. Due to the two crashes there were also two bike changes and then numerous punctures for our riders as well. At the end of the day though, Alessandro de Marchi (Cannondale) soloed to victory with Ryder Hesjedal (Garmin-Sharp) 2nd and Hubert Dupont (AG2R La Mondiale) 3rd. All the Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung riders would make.
After spending two years in the World Tour squads Argos-Shimano and Giant-Shimano, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg will return to Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung for the 2015-2016 seasons. Janse van Rensburg burst on to the international cycling scene during the 2011 Herald Sun Tour with a stage victory whilst riding for the MTN-Qhubeka UCI Continental Team. Janse van Rensburg confirmed his talent the following season by notching up a total of 14 victories, the most by any continental rider that year. Janse van Rensburg had attracted the attention of multiple World Tour teams and so moved on to Team Argos-Shimano in 2013, as he pursued his goals of racing in.
